LOS ANGELES – The Lions lost their second conference game against No. 4 University of San Diego.
 
The first set started off with San Diego getting on the board first.  A kill by Phoebe Awoleye, from Isabella Bareford, would put the Lions two points away from the Toreros, 5-3. LMU then went on a 4-0 run taking the lead, 9-8
 
A few service errors from USD extended the lead for LMU making it 12-9 midway through the set. The Toreros later caught momentum and went on a three unanswered point streak taking the lead over the Lions, 20-17. Late in the set LMU went on a 5-0 run and reclaimed the lead by one, 25-24. It was a close set, but USD would go on and win the set, 28-26.
 
Set two started with a 3-0 run from USD. A kill by Ella Boehle, from Awoleye, would put the Lions up one, 5-4. The Toreros went on multiple point streaks and extended the lead to, 11-6.
Another 4-0 stretch by USD pushed the lead to 19-14, before ultimately winning the set, 25-18.
 
USD went on a 5-0 run early in set three.  A kill from Isabelle Reffel would put the Lions within two of the Toreros, 7-5. LMU went on a three-point streak still trailing USD, 18-20. The Lions and Toreros would tie it up at 25-25 toward the end of the set.  Two back-to-back kills from Kari Geissberger would put the Lions up, 33-32. LMU would win set three, 34-32.
 
Set four started off great or the Lions. Early in the set LMU was up one, 4-3. LMU went on a 3-0 run still leading USD, 17-15. An ace by Rose Booth put the Lions up by four over the Toreros, 22-18. LMU took set four, 25-21.
 
In the fifth and final set, USD took an early lead, 5-1. A block by Awoleye and Audrey Klemp started a 3-0 run for the Lions, but still trailed the Toreros by one, 7-6. USD went on a five-point streak and won the set, 15-8, and won the game 3-2.
 
The Lions next game is Sept. 27 against Portland.
