Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lions Record Fifth Shutout to Remain Unbeaten

LOS ANGELES – Amanda Delgado collected five saves and the Lions defense helped her record the fifth shutout of the season as the LMU women's soccer team drew against Northern Arizona 0-0 on Friday night in Los Angeles, Calif.

NAU started with a frantic pace, forcing Delgado into a sprawling save with just 23 seconds gone from the kickoff. Delgado was up to the task as she pushed the ball around the post for a corner to avoid the danger.

Madison Werner had another shot on target in the 10th minute after running onto a Makayla Demelo feed. Werner has gotten fairly unlucky early on in the season, recording a .875 shot on target percentage but seeing only a single goal.

Jessie Halladay created a half chance in the 41st minute, making a dizzying display in the corner before finding some space and sending a cross that fell to Kailey Park. Park's hit went looping over the bar.

The second half saw the Lions best scoring chance and it came by way of a twisting move from Amanda Perez. Halladay played a lofting ball to Perez at the top of the box, Perez poked the ball over the center defender and attempted a shot that was knocked away by another Lumberjack defender at the last second.

The Lions remain unbeaten and are one of only 13 teams that can still make that claim.

Delgado stacks up pretty good nationally heading into conference play. She is currently third in the nation in save percentage and sixth overall in average goals against.

To find the last time the Lions were unbeaten through seven games, you would have to go all the way back to 1998 when they were unbeaten through ten games.

The Lions wrap up the nonconference portion of the schedule at home against UC San Diego on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. (PT) at Sullivan Field. They open up West Coast Conference play against No. 24 Portland on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Portland, Ore.
