LINCOLN, Neb. – The LMU Lions came out victorious against the Ole Miss Rebels Friday night on the final day of the Husker Invitational.

The first set started off close with Ole Miss scoring first and taking the lead, 4-1. A kill from
Jacquelyn Moore, with an assistant from
Isabella Bareford, quickly brought the Lions within two points of the Rebels to make the score, 4-2.

An ace by
Rose Booth gave the Lions the momentum they needed. Two kills by
Phoebe Awoleye and
Kari Geissberger followed bringing the Lions to, 9-6.
Â
Unfortunately, The Rebels came back with four unanswered points jumping the score to, 12-10. LMU and Ole Miss went back and forth, but a kill by
Audrey Klemp gave the Lions a two-point lead, 16-14.

Ole Miss couldn't hold on while LMU went on a five-point streak extending the lead to 22-16. The Lions would win the first set, 25-19.

The second set was the same with Ole Miss scoring first to open the match. A kill by
Rose Booth evened out the score, 2-2.

A kill by Bareford with help from
Sam Hastings brought LMU to, 5-4. Both the Lions and the Rebels scored points here and there, but it was LMU who would go on a two-point run and take the lead, 13-10.

A kill by Geissberger, from Bareford, would expand the lead by one more point, 14-11.
Â
Ole Miss tried to catch up to LMU by coming within two points of the Lions, 16-14. The Rebels then went on a three unanswered point streak bringing the score to, 18-17.

Both Awoleye and Booth teamed up on a block to increase the score to, 21-18. The Lions held onto the lead until the Rebels had three back-to-back points tying the game, 21-21. The Lions would end up going on a four-point streak and winning the second set, 25-21.

The third set started off right for the Lions. Four straight points would give LMU the lead, 4-0. Ole Miss quickly answered back with 4-0 run of their own tying up the match, 4-4.Â

Neither team could pull out a lead until Geissberger had two back-to-back kills giving LMU a two-point advantage, 11-9.

Ole Miss would eventually catch up and come within one point of LMU, 14-13. Late in the set the Lions went on a 4-0 run thanks to four straight kills from Geissberger increasing the lead to 22-15.

The Lions went on another three-point streak and won the set, 25-18, and sweeping the Rebels, 3-0.Â

The Lion's next game will be Sept. 8 against the San Jose Spartans in San Jose.
