Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Davie Hits Home in 87th Minute to Win Thriller

SAN DIEGO - The Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team completed the comeback in a 2-1 victory over San Diego State on Sunday night at the Aztec Sports Deck in San Diego, Calif.

The Lions (2-0) fell behind in the first half when the Aztecs (0-2) played a long through ball that Mitchell Wilson came out to contain. He forced the attacking Aztec to lay the ball off which was shot off the crossbar. The Aztecs were first to the ball on the rebound and the Lions went into the half trailing.

Much of the same end-to-end soccer that was the story of the first half continued into the second half.

Midfielder Noel Caliskan took a rip from distance when he found a little space at the top of the box, but the Aztec keeper parried the ball out of play.

Gianluca Arcangeli earned a free kick a few minutes later and fired towards the near post and a frantic SDSU defense pushed the ball into touch just before it snuck in.

The breakthrough finally came after the Lions won a free kick in the Aztecs' half. Steven Anderson delivered a beautifully weighted ball into the danger area. Braden Fidelak got his head to it and wheeled away into a celebration on the Lions' sideline.

After the Lions tied things up, the momentum clearly changed. The winner came only six minutes later when Stefan Reuter slid a dangerous ball into the box and Adam Davie tapped in for his third goal of the season.

The whistle blew minutes later, and the Lions came out victorious.

"I think we are training at a high level and there's just been a good energy around." Davie said after the match.

The Lions return home to face UNLV on Thursday night at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles, Calif. at 7 p.m. (PT).
