LOS ANGELES – The No. 24 LMU men's soccer team drew 0-0 at home against UNLV on Thursday night at Sullivan Field.Â
Â
The Lions (2-0-1) and Rebels (0-0-2) ran up and down the field, an end-to-end match that saw 23 shots.Â
Â
CJ Neville came off the bench to record three shots and was inches away in the 54th minute, battering the left post with a driven shot from the edge of the box.
Noel Caliskan played him through with a high-arching pass that bounded into the shot path of Neville, who got his laces through it, but was unlucky to hit the woodwork.Â
Â
Stefan Reuter also hit the crossbar on a shot that was blasted from inside the 18-yard box. Reuter took a pass from Corbin Mercado and ran past the defense, made a cut in the box, and fired a curling shot that squared up the crossbar and bounced away.Â
Â
The Lions finished with 14 shots. Â
Â
Mitchell Wilson collected his first clean sheet of the season after making four saves. Wilson kept the Lions tied when faced with a one-on-one opportunity in the 62
nd minute. The Rebel attacker shot to Wilson's right, and the ball appeared to be past him. But Wilson ensnared the shot with both hands to keep things level.Â
Â
Wilson produced another huge save in the 81st minute. UNLV won a corner kick and got off a decent bouncing shot that was bound for the top left corner of the goal. Wilson went into a full extension dive and pushed the ball just around the post for an acrobatic save. Â
Â
The draw comes after the Lions cracked the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 this week at No. 24.Â
Â
The Lions are back at home to face the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. (PT) at Sullivan Field. Tickets for the match can be found
