LOS ANGELES – LMU women's volleyball started their 2022-2023 season off at the Utah Classic playing against the University of Utah and Utah Valley.

In the first game, Utah started with the lead that grew to as much as six points. A shift started when
Jacquelyn Moore had a kill and gave LMU the momentum with four straight points, making it 11-9. Both teams went back and forth scoring between two to three points at most in a row. At the end, Utah came out with the win for the set, 22-25.

In the beginning of set two, the Utes took the first two points. With a kill by Rose Both and an assist by
Isabella Bareford, LMU brought the score within one point, 2-3. The Lions went on a four-point run with three of the points being aces from Booth. LMU took the lead 14-13. The rest of the set stayed close with LMU and Utah tying up at 21-21. Eventually, Utah would take the set, 25-22.

During the third set, Utah went on a four-point run leading the Lion 4-1. With a kill by
Phoebe Awoleye, LMU brought the score within two points. Utah ended up going on a five-point run and eventually winning the game, 16-25.

LMU's second game against Utah Valley was a different story.

Utah Valley State started the set with a 4-0 run, but with a kill by
Audrey Klemp, followed by another kill by Awoleye, LMU brought the score within three points at 6-3. The Lions quickly changed the narrative and scored nine consecutive points taking the lead from the Wolverines, 20-10. Utah Valley gained a few points, but it was LMU who came out winning the set, 25-14.

The second set was a lot tighter at the beginning. LMU and UVU went back and forth scoring no more than two points in a row. The Lions had a five-point lead over the Wolverines thanks to a kill by Klemp and an ace serve by
Mary Shroll bringing the score to 16-2. LMU would come out with the set win, 25-19.

LMU would continue to dominate in the third set.

The Lions went a on seven-point unanswered streak taking the lead, 13-6. Utah Valley tried to fight back, but it was LMU who went another 4-0 run bringing the score to 19-11.

Ultimately it was LMU who came out with the set win (25-17) and winning sweeping the Wolverines, 3-0.

LMU continues play tomorrow, August 27, at 1 PM taking on #23 University of Kansas.
