LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's soccer team drew at home against Washington 0-0 on Thursday night in front of a raucous crowd at Sullivan Field.
Graduate goalkeeper Amanda Delgado collected nine saves in the match, including an acrobatic save that saw her push the ball over the crossbar in the 27
th minute. It was her second consecutive shutout to open the season after posting a clean sheet at UC Irvine on Sunday. This is the first time the Lions have posted back-to-back shutouts since 2018.
The back three of Alice Santen, Gabriella Marchal and Genevieve Watkins continue to shine as they too played a vital role in the clean sheet. Marchal may have made the save of the match after a Husky corner made its way to the back post. Delgado was out of position, which left the near post open. Marchal stayed in her position and took a goal off the line to preserve the shutout.
It was move-in day at LMU and the crowd brought energy and life to the stadium that was not seen in the preseason friendlies.
Kailey Park again played all 90 to go along with the center backs and Delgado, patrolling the middle of the field.
The Lions frustrated the Huskies for most of the game, with the Huskies deciding to loft deep diagonal passes and crosses that they could not connect on. Towards the end of the game, the Lions absorbed increased pressure, but the horn sounded, and the teams locked in a goalless draw. It was the first positive result against a Pac-12 opponent since 2017.
The Lions return to the pitch on Sunday, August 28 at 5 p.m. (PT) taking on the Matadors of Cal State Northridge in an away contest.
