LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount men's soccer team defeated the visiting SIUE Cougars 3-1 on Thursday evening at Sullivan Field.Â
Â
Adam Davie scored a brace in the first 11 minutes of the game and Noel Caliskan slotted home in the 87th minute to put the game on ice. Â
Â
Davie found the back of the net after only four minutes of play. Dylan Shockey came up the wing and fed Derek Goodman. Goodman fired across the face of goal and Davie calmly controlled the ball with his right foot and tapped in quickly with his left to give the Lions an early lead.Â
Â
In the 11th minute it was Davie again. Stefan Reuter found Goodman in the middle of the park. Goodman played a nicely weighted ball past the back line to the feet of Davie, who fired a low shot that the Cougar goalkeeper could not keep out.Â
Â
The Cougars cut into the deficit in the 23rd minute after goalkeeper Mitchell Wilson slid in to clear a ball and did not get enough of it. The Lions defense could not recover in time and the score was 2-1. Â
Â
In the second half, there was not much action to speak of as both teams played mostly in the midfield.
Ronaldo Brown took a rip from distance after finding a little space, but his curling effort was too close to the opposing goalkeeper. Â
Â
The Cougars won a corner in the 86th minute and the Lions cleared to
Leo Zulli who calmly slid the ball to the feet of Caliskan who took the ball the rest of the way and slotted home to ice away the game. Â
Â
Caliskan is fresh off a Mac Hermann watch list nomination continued to be his steady self, spraying passes from the back, making runs forward when needed and dropping back to support if necessary.Â
Â
The Lions travel down Interstate 5 to face off against the Aztecs of San Diego State on Sunday, August 28 at 7 p.m. That match will be available on the Aztecs Digital Network.Â
