SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the first time in conference history, the West Coast Conference will sponsor men's water polo. The WCC announced the news on Tuesday with the first season scheduled to be played in the fall of 2023.
We are very excited to have the WCC add Men's Water Polo," said Head Coach
John Loughran. "This is something we have hoped for and worked towards for many years. It is great news for LMU water polo, the WCC, and the water polo community."
Full membership has been awarded to LMU, Pacific, Pepperdine, and Santa Clara. The conference has also secured Air Force, Cal Baptist, and San Jose State as men's water polo affiliate members to make this a seven-team league.
"We look forward to working with our fellow WCC schools and making this the premier water polo conference in the country," added Loughran.
The move to the WCC will be the first conference switch for the men's program since joining the Western Water Polo Association as a founding member. The Lions won eight WWPA Championships under Loughran including four consecutive league titles between 2007 and 2010.
