LMU Softball Claims Four Major WCC Awards, Nine Lions Named to All-WCC Teams

WCC Release

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named LMU's Tairia Flowers the conference's Coach of the Year after guiding the Lions back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. Along with Coach Flowers, nine players have been named to All-Conference teams highlighted by WCC Player of the Year Georgia Blair, WCC Pitcher of the Year Jenna Perez, and WCC Freshman of the Year Jasmine Sofowora.

Georgia Blair becomes the first Lion to be named WCC Player of the Year after ranking in the top-5 in the league in batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. Blair led the Lions with a .389 batting average and .466 on base percentage this season

LMU's ace Jenna Perez led the WCC this season in ERA, strikeouts and hits allowed per seven innings. Perez joins Hannah Bandimere (2018) as the second LMU player to be named WCC Pitcher of the Year. Perez won 17 games in the regular season with a 1.35 ERA and 189 strikeouts.

Jasmine Sofowora is the first Lion to be named WCC Freshman of the Year after posting a .372 batting average with 26 RBI, and a team-best .663 slugging percentage in her first season of college softball.

Coach Flowers has now been named Conference Coach of the Year in two leagues, after previously being named Big West Coach of the Year in 2015. This is also her second time leading a program to the NCAA Tournament, which he also accomplished in 2015 while leading CSUN.

Four Lions were named All-Conference First Team members. Joining Blair and Perez are Alyssa Daniell and Sydney Poole.

Morgan DeBord joins Sofowora on the All-Conference Second Team.

Three Lions have been named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Seniors Megan Dedrick and Andrea Gonzalez are four-time and three-time All-Conference selections, respectively, and Savannah Hooks earns her fist WCC recognition as a freshman.

The Lions will continue the season in the Los Angeles Regional of the NCAA Tournament beginning this Friday at 4:30 PM against Ole Miss. The game will stream on ESPN+ and tickets are available here.
