LOS ANGELES- The No. 6 ranked Loyola Marymount University beach volleyball team (19-3) is on the road to Manoa, Hawaii to compete against the No. 8 ranked Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the No. 7 ranked Grand Canyon Lopes in a four-game tournament, playing both teams twice.
The Lions are coming off a 2-2 tournament appearance at the UCLA Beach Invitational last weekend, falling short to No. 5 ranked LSU and No. 3 ranked TCU, prior to beating No. 16 ranked FIU and Utah.
Despite falling short in the first two matches,
Reka Orsi Toth and
Megan Rice dominated the pair one position, winning in both matches to help the Lions.
Vilhelmiina Prihti and
Macy Gordon also performed well last weekend winning three out of four matches at pairs 3 and 4.
Looking ahead to this weekend's tournament, this will be another tough test for the Lions thus far as they will face No. 7 and No. 8 ranked teams after facing three top 25 ranked teams in a two-day span last weekend.
The Lions first match will be held against No. 7 ranked GCU, currently 16-4, on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 11:30 a.m. PST, followed by another match against No. 8 Hawaii at 2:30 p.m. PST.
On Sunday, April. 9, the Lions will face both teams in the same order at 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. PST to finish off the two-day tournament.
The last match between LMU and GCU was Apr. 25, 2021, with LMU getting the 5-0 victory over the Lopes.
As for the last meeting between the Lions and the BeachBows, they played back in 2019 with Hawaii coming away with the 3-2 win.
The entire tournament will be held Manoa, Hawaii with the first match of the invitational set to start at 11:30 a.m. PST.
