LEXINGTON, Ky. — The AVCA is proud to announce its its 10th annual Collegiate Beach All-America Teams. For the first time in program history, LMU has four student-athletes named to All-America teams.
Reka Orsi Toth and
Megan Rice each earned First Team All-America recognition after their standout seasons.
Marine Kinna and
Avery Poppinga, each in their first season with the Lions as graduate transfers, earned spots on the Second Team All-America List.
"I'm so proud of the hard work Megan, Reka
, Avery, and Marine have put in to earn this award," said Head Coach John Mayer. "Coach Angie Akers has been the head coach for these 2 teams and has been integral to their success."
Heading the list of 2022 honorees from all schools are LMU and USC, which have pairs on both the first and second teams.
This year, the first and second teams include 16 members each, and the 32 players honored represent 13 schools. The awards selections were made by the AVCA Collegiate Beach All-America Committee: Beth Van Fleet of Georgia State (chair), Andrew Fuller of Stanford, Hector Gutierrez of TCU, Kristen Rohr of Grand Canyon, and Darin Van Horn of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Lions look to repeat as West Coast Conference Tournament Champions this week with the competition beginning Friday at noon. The Lions enter the championships as the top seed. Matches will be played at the Ocean Park Courts in Santa Monica.
