STOCKTON, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (11-19-1, 8-4 WCC) scored in each of the game's first three innings and rolled to their second straight West Coast Conference series victory in a 16-6 decision over Pacific.
The Lions'
Devan Ornelas got the offense going to start the game and the team didn't look back. His game opening double and eventual score was one of three runs scored in the first. For the game Ornelas went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, four runs scored, and two stolen bases.
Jared Thomas provided LMU with the long ball Sunday afternoon. He hit his fifth and sixth home runs of the season against the Tigers. On the day Thomas went 3-for-5 with those two homers, three runs scored, and five RBIs.
In the top of the second with a pair on Thomas sent a laser over the right field wall and in the fifth with a man on he hit an opposite field shot over left to give LMU a commanding lead.
The Lions gave the ball to
Quinn Lavelle on Sunday afternoon and he produced 4.1 innings of work. Lavelle had five strikeouts on the afternoon against two walks while surrendering five runs.
LMU turned the ball over to their bullpen and the combination of
Conner Kershaw and
Owen Hackman were enough to keep the Tigers at bay.
On the day LMU put together a season-high in runs with 16 while coming close to tying other highs in hits and RBIs.
The Lions continue their season-long 10 game road swing with a stop in Irvine on Tuesday, April 12th to face the Anteaters. First pitch between the schools is slated for 6:00 p.m.
