IRVINE, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (11-20-1, 8-4 WCC) dropped their midweek contest to the UC Irvine Anteaters 7-3 on Tuesday night.
LMU, looking for their first midweek win of the season, got offense in the visiting half of the sixth and eighth but couldn't keep pace with UCI who scored runs in five separate innings.
Jimmy Galicia drew the Tuesday night start and he provided LMU with 4.2 innings on the mound. He started the game retiring the first six Anteater batters and for the night had two strikeouts against one walk.
LMU began their sixth inning rally with a single courtesy of
Grant Weiss. He moved to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a
Brett Zimmerman single. Zimmerman scored on the next play when
Robbie Ayers blasted his first collegiate hit with a double to right center.
The Lions loaded the bases in the sixth but couldn't bring in any more runs when
Cole Roberts grounded out to the shortstop.
LMU got another run in the eighth when
Dylan Dennis scored on
Ben Grunberg's RBI double down the left field line but the Lions couldn't add any more to their total on Tuesday night.
LMU returns to West Coast Conference play when they travel down to San Diego to face the Toreros in a three-game set. First pitches for the series are Thursday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m., Friday, April 15 at 5:00 p.m., and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
