LOS ANGELES, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (1-8-1, 0-0 WCC) trailed in the early going of Saturday night's game and fought their way back but couldn't climb all the way, dropping the second contest of their three-game series 10-5 against Kansas State.
The Lions turned to
Matt McClure on Saturday night with the sophomore producing three strikeouts opposite four walks and nine hits against 23 Wildcats batters.
LMU trailed heading into the home half of the sixth and took advantage of both
Trey Becker and
Cole Roberts' getting hit by Wildcat pitching and a walk from
Grant Weiss to load the bases.
Connor Blough drew a walk bringing in the first Lions run followed by a
Jared Thomas RBI single and a
Matthew Piotrowski walk to push three runs across.
The Lions kept the momentum going in the bottom of the seventh when Weiss hit a shot over the left field wall for a two-run homer, making the score 9-5 at that point.
LMU wouldn't get any closer as they gave up a run in the top of the ninth and went down in order to end the game 10-5 in favor of Kansas State.
The Lions and Wildcats wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. at Page Stadium.
