Lions Bounce Back Against Wildcats

LONG BEACH, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (2-8-1, 0-0 WCC) got a season-high 19 hits on Sunday afternoon and took the final contest of the three-game series 14-7 over the Kansas State Wildcats.

The Lions got a pair of runs in the home half of the second to come within one of the Wildcats but took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three LMU baserunners touching home plate for a 5-3 lead.

Trey Becker hit a bases clearing triple for a pair of runs while Jared Thomas hit an RBI groundout pushing the Lions ahead by two.

LMU added another run in the bottom of the fifth and increased their lead in the home half of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Diego Baqueiro and RBI singles from Dylan Dennis and Khadim Diaw.

The Lions surrendered four runs in the top of the seventh but got three of them back off the bat of Baqueiro. He stepped up to the plate with a pair of Lions on and the first offering he saw, took it deep over the left field wall giving LMU enough cushion to claim their second victory of the season.

LMU ventures on the road for the first time this season when they travel to Santa Barbara for a midweek game against the Gauchos. First pitch between the Lions and Gauchos is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8th.
