It was a beautiful sunny day at the Burns pool where Loyola Marymount University Lions three Senior swimmers,
Lydia Zicker,
Sabine Caplin and
Colby Mallett, took to the blocks one last time for a final home meet against PCSC rival, Azusa Pacific University.
Competing in a shortened format with the conference championships days away, the Lions jumped out to an early lead winning the opening 200 medley relay with a young Lion quartet of
Frances Dygean,
Kelli Andrade,
Ashley Leaman and
Abby Shaw. Leaman, Andrade and Shaw then captured the next three individual races with Leaman taking the 100 backstroke (1:00.43), Andrade the 100 breaststroke (1:09.36) and Shaw the 50 butterfly (26.69).
Azusa Pacific responded by winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle sprint freestyle races before sophomore
Bebe Choroser added another win for the Lion's taking the 50 backstroke in a personal best time of 28.69 just out touching teammates Shaw (28.81) and
Sarah Lu (29.12) for a 1-2-3 Lion finish. Andrade captured her second breaststroke race of the meet winning the 50 in 31.65 before the Lions closed out the meet with another relay victory in the 200 freestyle relay with Shaw,
Bella Flaminio, Lu and Leaman combining for the win. The final score of the meet was LMU 116, APU 82.
After the competition the Lions' celebrated their three seniors who will be graduating in May:
- Lydia Zicker (Lawrence, Kansas) Psychology major. Breaststroke and IM specialty
- Sabine Caplin (Park City, Utah) International Relations. Butterfly and IM specialty
- Colby Mallett (Spring Lake, New Jersey) Biology (pre-Med). Butterfly speciality
The Lions will conclude their season at the PCSC Championship in St. George, Utah February 16-19.
