LOS ANGELES – On a night that began recognizing LMU's senior class, it was those very seniors that lifted the Lions to victory. Following the pregame ceremony, the seniors combined for over half of the team's points in the 90-77 win over University of the Pacific.
Senior
Quentin Jackson, Jr. opened the scoring and gave LMU the first basket of the game. After the Tigers built up 5-2 lead,
Joe Quintana tied the game with his first of six threes on the night.
Pacific built up a 24-16 lead on a 9-0 run, but the Lions had a response of their own. LMU used a 9-0 run to retake the lead with baskets bookended by Quintana.
The Tigers led by five in the last minute of the half, but
Cam Shelton stole an inbounds and took it the length of the court, converted the basket, and drew a foul. A couple of free throws by
Eli Scott with three ticks remaining cut the deficit to one at the break, 36-35.
Scott and Quintana teamed up on a 14-1 run, including nine in a row, to open the second half. The senior pair combined for 30 second half points, as Quintana scored a game-high 24 and Scott putting in 20.
Alex Merkviladze hit a three to give LMU another 12-point lead with 14:24 to play. The advantage did not dip into single digits again, as the Lions led by as many as 16 in the second half which was first reached on back-to-back threes from
Jalin Anderson. Both Anderson and Merkviladze finished in double-digits with 14 and 13 points each, respectively.
Lamaj Lewis put together a career day. The freshman scored seven points and corralled eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action.
Cam Shelton scored 10 points as well as one of five Lions in double-figures.
After shooting 50 percent from the floor in the first half, LMU made 18-of-29 (62.1 percent) of second half shots.
The Lions will await the official West Coast Conference standings before finalizing the game time and opponent for next week's championships. Follow LMULions.com and WCCSports.com for all updates heading into the WCC Tournament.
