LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (0-4-1, 0-0 WCC) lost their Friday series opener against the Creighton Bluejays, 14-2.
LMU picked up an early lead as
Dylan Dennis singled to center field with two on. Diego Baqeiro scored and
Jared Thomas advanced to second.
An RBI single in the top of the second tied the game at 1-1. Creighton added a four-run third to take their first lead of the game.
A leadoff single and throwing error helped LMU start the second inning with a runner in scoring position. With
Sam Biller on second,
Connor Blough drew a four-pitch walk. Following a popout both runners advanced on a wild pitch to put Biller 90 feet from home.
Jared Thomas drew a eight-pitch walk, with the final pitch of the at-bat going wild and allowing the runners to advance and the Lions to pick up a run.
Biller led the team with three hits including a double.
Creighton tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh and then three runs each in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Jimmy Galica pitched 5.1 innings before LMU went to the bullpen.
Adam Christopher picked up two innings of relief and Connor Kershaw finished the final inning and two thirds.
LMU will continue the series with the Bluejays Saturday at 6:00 PM. The Sunday finale has been moved to 11:30 AM to allow for Creighton's travel.
