Lions Fight Back but Fall to Utes

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (0-2, 0-0 WCC) fell behind early on Saturday night but scratched and clawed their way back before falling 10-7 to the University of Utah for their second loss of the season.

The Lions gave up runs to the Utes in each of the first three innings but managed to get right back into the game with a huge five run outburst in the home half of the second.

LMU's second inning rally was brought on by a few walks, errant pitching by the Utes and timely hitting. Dylan Dennis scored on a passed ball for the Lions first run of the night while Cole Roberts singled up the middle for two more runs. Diego Baqueiro kept up his hot start with a 2-run single to push the Lions within two.

The Lions got another run in the bottom half of the sixth to cut the deficit to two but a pair of sacrifice flies by the Utes in the top of the eighth proved to be too much for LMU to overcome.

The series concludes tomorrow afternoon with the Lions looking for their first win of the season with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. LMU will go with lefty Logan Hurd while the Utes will counter with righty Cam Day.
