LOS ANGELES – LMU women's basketball closed out their first week of conference home play with a 96-51 loss to the No. 19 ranked, Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The game opened with the Lions getting on the board first thanks to a steal and a two pointer by
Ariel Johnson. Midway through the quarter, Gonzaga went on a 13-0 run and led LMU, 27-9. The Lions finished the quarter shooting 46.2% from the field compared to the Bulldogs 82.4%.
In the second quarter
Nicole Rodriguez went 3-4 leading the team in points. At the 4:40 mark, Rodriguez scored the Lions next seven points putting them a little bit closer to the Bulldogs.
With five seconds left on the clock,
Cassandra Gordon drained a three making the score, 60-25, going into the half. The Bulldogs were hot from the three shooting 76.9% (10-13) in the first half.
Going into the second half the Bulldogs were first to the board, but the Lions followed that with a four-point streak started by a made layup by
Khari Clark. Gonzaga went on multiple streaks throughout the quarter, but their biggest was a 9-0 run at the end of the quarter leading LMU by 42, 81-39.
Even with the hustle the Lions were giving in the fourth quarter, the deficient grew bigger and the Lions would end up trailing by 45 with the final score of, 96-51.
Rodriguez led the Lions with 14 points while Clark led with nine rebounds.
The Lions next game will be Jan. 5 against the Saint Mary's Gaels in Moraga, CA.
