MORAGA, Calif. - The LMU men's soccer team fell to Saint Mary's 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Moraga, Calif.
The Gaels scored in the third minute of the game and held on in the waning minutes, withstanding a barrage of Lions shots to pull out the victory.
The first half was mostly forgettable, but the Lions came alive in the second half.
Noah Robertson had a shot on target saved with a dramatic diving hand by the Gaels keeper. In the 73
rd minute, Dylan Shockey found some space to cross on the right wing, sent in a low ball that was flicked on by Adam Davie right into the path of Robertson who got great contact on it. He was only stopped with a diving stop by Gaels goalkeeper Kash Oladapo.
Steven Anderson wiggled by a pair of defenders in the 84th minute and laid a ball to Davie who returned it right back. Anderson hit the ball clean but it was blocked by one of the Gaels center backs. The ball fell to
CJ Neville who had a half chance, but that was cleared away.
Neville had another chance to find the net, but Oladapo once again made a phenomenal diving stop. Neville played a through ball to Marco Byers-Mora who drilled a cross across the face of goal. The ball came in so hard that Neville did not have time to react, and the shot came off his chest. Once again, it was Oladapo diving and saving.
The Lions have one more match this season, playing at home against Gonzaga on Saturday, Nov. 12. The match will begin at 7 p.m. (PT).
