LOS ANGELES – The Lions defeated the Pacific Tigers Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 sweep extending their winning streak to five straight games.
 
Set one started off with a kill by Kari Geissberger putting the Lions on the board. The Tigers then went on a 3-0 run leading the Lions by one, 3-2. A service error by Pacific, followed by a kill from Jacquelyn Moore, would put the Lions up by two, 8-6. Midway through the set LMU went on a three unanswered point streak leading Pacific, 19-16. At the end, the Lions went on a 4-0 and won the set, 25-18.
 
The Lions dominated the beginning of set two. LMU went on an eight-point streak leading Pacific, 10-1. The Lions then followed that with another seven unanswered point streak making it, 20-5. Pacific went on a 3-0 run making it, 22-11, but that wasn't enough to win the set. A kill by Payton George would put the Lions at set point, 24-12. LMU would win the set two, 25-13.
 
Set three was all LMU. A kill by Audrey Klemp, from Isabella Bareford, started a 4-0 streak for the Lions making it, 6-2. Pacific followed with a 4-0 run of their own tying up the score, 6-6. The Lions would then lead the Tigers, 12-8, thanks to back-to-back kills from Phoebe Awoleye, and Klemp; and a block from Geissberger and Awoleye. Both teams scored a couple points here and there, but a Rose Booth kill followed by three ace serves by Booth put the Lions up, 20-13. The Lions would win set three, 25-19, and sweep the Tigers, 3-0.
 
The Lions next game will be Friday, Oct. 14, against the Pepperdine Waves in Gersten Pavilion.
