Lions Defeat The Broncos in Three

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's volleyball defeat the Santa Clara Broncos in a 3-0 sweep.
 
Set one started off with both teams going back and forth until the Lions had a 2-0 run taking the lead, 8-6. A kill by Kari Geissberger sparked momentum for LMU who would go on a four-point streak extending their lead by five, 12-7. The Lions went on two 3-0 runs in the middle of the set bringing the score to, 20-11. LMU would win the first set, 25-16.
 
The Lions started set two with a four unanswered point streak leading the Broncos by four. Santa Clara would gain energy going on a 6-0 run taking the lead from the Lions, 11-9. LMU answered back with six unanswered points of their own reclaiming the lead by four, 15-11. It was all LMU the rest of the way. The Lions scored nine points in a row thanks to kills from Audrey Klemp, Phoebe Awoleye and Geissberger making it, 24-12. The Lions would win set two, 25-13.
 
Set three started with LMU getting on the board first. Santa Clara went on a 3-0 run leading LMU by two, 3-1. The Lions would go on a 3-0 run as well taking the lead, 12-10. Both teams went back and forth scoring one point each until the Lions had three kills in a row from Awoleye and Klemp. LMU would lead the Broncos by four, 18-14. At the end of the set, the Lions went on a four unanswered point streak. Four kills from Rose Booth, Jacquelyn Moore and Geissberger gave LMU the edge and the win, 25-20.
 
Sam Hastings led both teams in digs with 16 while Geissberger led with 16 kills.
 
The Lions next match will be Nov. 3 against the Pacific Tigers in Stockton, CA.
