Lions Winning Streak Comes to an End

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's volleyball fall short against the San Francisco Dons in an intense 3-1 match.
 
The Dons opened set one leading the Lions, 2-0. A kill by Kari Geissberger, from Isabella Bareford, would put the Lions on the board. Both teams went back and forth scoring one point each until the Lions went on a 2-0 run tying the score, 9-9. The score would tie up eight times throughout the set. Towards the end, a Rose Booth kill sparked a three-point streak for the Lions making it, 24-21. LMU would win set one, 25-22.
 
Set two started with the Dons leading the Lions, 6-3. A kill from Audrey Klemp and Geissberger brought LMU within one of San Francisco, 7-6. The Dons went on multiple streaks in the middle of the set. San Francisco went on a four unanswered point streak still leading LMU by eight, 19-11. The Lions followed with a 3-0 run, but it wouldn't be enough to take the set. The Dons would win set two, 25-18.
 
In set three, the Dons took the first two points leading the Lions, 2-0. The lead wouldn't last long. The Lions went on a 4-0 run leading the Dons by one, 9-8. LMU would go on another run extending the lead by three, 14-11. Set three was looking promising for the Lions until the Dons slowly started creeping up. A kill from San Francisco, and an attack error from LMU, put the Dons within two, 22-20. At the end of the set San Francisco went on a four-point streak reclaiming the lead, 25-24. The Dons went on another 3-0 run at won the set, 28-26.
 
Set four started off with both teams going back and forth raking in one point at a time until the Dons went on a 2-0 run making it, 4-2. A block by Jacquelyn Moore, Geissberger and Bareford sparked a three-point streak for the Lions tying the score, 7-7. San Francisco followed that with a four unanswered point streak leading LMU by three, 12-9. The Dons went on two big steaks toward the end of the set and beat the Lions, 25-14, and won the match, 3-1.
 
The Lions next match will be this Saturday, Oct. 29, against the Santa Clara Broncos at Gersten Pavilion.
