LMU women's swimming competed against Mountain West conference champion SDSU, and WAC runner-up GCU as well as Seattle University on Saturday in Phoenix, Ariz. Many Lions posted season best times while facing-off against the other three teams.
Senior
Kelli Andrade and junior
Abby Shaw had strong performances on both days recording season best times in their individual events. Shaw, a sprinter, extend her range into 'mid-distance' by swimming the first 200 freestyle of her collegiate career in a time of 1:59.07 and earning the first place points between LMU vs. Seattle. Shaw also earned first place points (vs Seattle) in the 50 free touching the wall in 24.96. Andrade captured second place (vs Seattle) in the 100 breaststroke and third place in the 200 breaststroke. Sarah Lu added points for the Lions in the 100 backstroke taking second place (vs. Seattle).
Natalie Hogenboom led the sophomore class, recording season best times in all of her individual races and capturing first place point vs Seattle in the 500 freestyle and second place points in both the 200 fly and 200 free. Teammates
Ryann Dorris and
Ashley Leaman also improved on their season best times with Dorris (who also competes on LMU's cross-country team) achieving season best performance in the distance 'trifecta' consisting of the 1650, 500 freestyle, and 400 individual medley.
Freshman
Saanvi Sood, an international student from New Delhi, India, achieved PRs in all four of her individual swims improving on the times she recorded at Pepperdine two weeks ago. Sood was joined by freshman teammate,
Grace O'Connell, who also recorded new PRs in the 1650 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Fellow freshman
Rei Sperry,
Ashley Deabler and
Grace Hull recorded season best times in each of their individual events with Sperry capturing third place points (vs Seattle) in the 200 freestyle and fourth place in the 500 freestyle. Hull added to the Lion point total by capturing third in the 200 fly.
The Lions host their first home meet of the season against WCC rival USD on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Burns Aquatic Center.
