SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The LMU women's volleyball team (11-1, 2-0 WCC) fought through a tough opening set before ultimately taking down San Francisco (0-10, 0-2 WCC) in three games, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17.
The two teams played a close opening set, with neither team leading by more than three points in the set. With the game tied at 18-all, LMU scored the next three points only to be answered by three-straight by the Dons. The Lions then responded with three consecutive points to go ahead 24-21. San Francisco fought off two set points before
Emmelyn Walters clinched it with a kill.
San Francisco took an early 6-4 lead before LMU answered with a 7-1 run. After USF stopped the scoring run with back-to-back points, the Lions scored seven unanswered with
Isabella Bareford serving to take a 18-9 lead, before closing it out 25-15. LMU hit .417 in the set with only three team errors.
The Lions scored five straight early in the third set to take a quick 5-2 run. LMU never surrendered the lead and pushed it up to as high as nine before clinching the match.
Megan Rice recorded 14 kills and
Kari Geissberger added 11.
Isabella Bareford totaled 29 kills.
The Lions will return to the Bluff for a Tuesday night league game against Gonzaga at 7 p.m.
