TULSA, OK – The No. 17 Loyola Marymount University Lions (1-0-0) opened the 2021 season with a resounding 3-1 victory over Oral Roberts getting goals from
Jack Sauls,
Noel Caliskan, and
Nick Dauchot.
The Lions got the game's first goal off the boot of Sauls in the 31st minute and were poised to take the lead into the locker room before the Golden Eagles tied it at one with a shot that found the back of the net with seconds remaining.
LMU shook off the late first half goal and regained the lead in the 59th minute when the Golden Eagles committed a foul inside the box. Caliskan took the penalty kick and scored his first goal of the season when his ball got past the keeper.
Dauchot put the game out of reach in the 80th minute off a set piece. Caliskan's ball found Dauchot perfectly in the box and he did the rest, pushing the Lions lead to two.
LMU outshot the Golden Eagles 15-6 and put six shots on goal as opposed to two from Oral Roberts. Both schools had two assists a piece and the Golden Eagles had the advantage in corners 8-3.
The Lions open their home portion of the schedule Monday night when San Diego State pays a visit to Sullivan Field.
