GULF SHORES, Ala., -- After a historic season and an impressive run in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Tournament, the No. 5 Loyola Marymount University beach volleyball team closed out its 2021 season in the elimination bracket after falling to No. 1 UCLA 3-0 on Sunday morning in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Lions battled to make it to the last day of the tournament, cruising past No. 4 LSU, and then upsetting No. 1. UCLA, leading them to play No. 2 USC. The Lions met the Bruins in the elimination bracket after losing to the Trojans.
The Bruins came out and attacked on Sunday, ending LMU's historic run. This was the first time in program history that the Lions have made it to the NCAA Tournament, and their No. 5 ranking is also the highest in program history.
The pair of
Jacinda Ramirez and
Darby Dunn remained undefeated all season, going 10-0.
LMU closed out its season with a 31-8 overall record and an undefeated 9-0 conference record. The team will graduate five incredible seniors and graduate students who were a part of LMU history, including,
