Lions Upset No.1 UCLA To Advance to NCAA Beach Finals

GULF SHORES, Ala., -- The No. 5 Loyola Marymount University beach volleyball team upset No. 1 UCLA 3-2 and will advance to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Finals. This is the first time since 2014 that the Lions have beaten the Bruins.

The win comes after the team beat No. 4 Louisiana State University 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and will advance to the semifinals to play No. 1 UCLA.

Reka Orsi Toth and Selina Marolf got the first NCAA Tourrnament win for the Lions, making program history. Darby Dunn and Jacinda Ramirez pulled the second win for the Lions. Tied at 2-2, Savannah Slattery and Jessie Prichard clinched the match for LMU.

The match came down to Doud and Firnett on court five.The duo battled, and clinched the match in the third set for the Lions. 

The Lions will play the University of Southern California on Saturday at 2:00 PM. The Trojans play the Lions as a two-seed, and beat Cal Poly and Florida State in the first and second rounds.The Lions have met with the Trojans twice this season, and have dropped both matches. The Trojans are 27-4 on the season.
