LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (19-29, 12-14 WCC) couldn't get their offense on track Saturday night and dropped their contest against Pacific 3-2, tying the series at one game apiece between the two schools.
The Lions offense produced three singles and one double but couldn't turn any of those hits into runs against the Tigers. LMU loaded the bases in the fourth and the ninth and came away with one run each time and it wasn't enough to catch the Tigers.
LMU turned to
Matt McClure for the Saturday night start and the righty was solid on the bump. He threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up five hits with six strikeouts and one walk against 22 Pacific batters.
The Lions trailed by three heading into the home half of the fourth when they got their first run of the game.
In the home half of the seventh the Lions had two runners on base with a chance to get closer to Pacific but an inning ending double played thwarted the rally.
In the bottom of the ninth the Lions made things interesting when
Matt Voelker started off the frame with a double. After the Voelker double LMU recorded a pair of outs bringing
Cole Roberts to the plate to extend the game. Roberts was hit by a pitch and
Alex Lambeau walked loading the bases for the Lions.
With the bases loaded
Kenny Oyama was hit by a pitch brining in LMU's second run of the game.
Matthew Piotrowski was next up to bat and with the first pitch he saw sent a fly ball to right that ended the game in favor of the Tigers.
The Lions and Tigers wrap up their three-game weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm with the rubber match as LMU is looking to bounce back and claim the series against Pacific. LMU will also celebrate Senior Day and honor their 11 seniors with a ceremony before the game.
