Lions Cruise Past Tigers

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (19-28, 12-13 WCC) got a quality start from Josh Agnew and 13 hits from the offense to open their final homestand of the season with a 7-2 win over West Coast Conference foe Pacific.

Agnew was the story for the Lions. He was tremendous on the hill in his last start in an LMU uniform. The senior produced 7 1/3 innings of six hit baseball while striking out four against no walks and surrendered two runs on the night.

The Lions didn't waste any time and jumped on Pacific right from the onset, scoring three runs in the first and one in the second and never trailed in the game.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth and holding onto a three run lead, the Lions loaded the bases with one out and pushed across a run with a walk setting the stage for Kenny Oyama. He delivered a two-run single to center putting the Lions comfortably ahead by five.

The Lions gave up a run in the visiting half of the sixth but didn't allow another Tiger to score.

With one out in the top of the eighth, Agnew surrendered a single to center and he gave way to Diego Barrera who got the Tigers to hit into an inning ending double play.

Holden Christian entered the game in the ninth and got the first two Pacific batters to strike out before giving up a single. With a man on Christian got the final out on a grounder to third ending the game in favor of LMU.

The Lions and Tigers continue their series tomorrow night when Matt McClure goes opposite Hunter Schilperoort. First pitch between the Lions and Tigers is slated for 6:00 p.m.
