SAN FRANCISCO – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (9-17, 2-7 WCC) took an early lead in their series finale against the University of San Francisco but had it slip away late in the game and fell 9-4 to the Dons.
The Lions scored first in the game, pushing across a pair in the visiting half of the third.
Julian Bury got the first of his three hits when he singled to right scoring
Alex Lambeau who started the inning off with a double. LMU loaded the bases later in the frame and got the second run when
Tommy Delgado worked an eight-pitch walk.
Heading into the fourth
Matthew Piotrowski started off the inning with a double to left and eventually scored on Bury's double, his second hit of the game, pushing the Lions lead to 3-1.
LMU took a one-run lead into the sixth but saw that slip away as the Dons pushed seven across in the frame.
Getting the starting nod for the series finale was
Matt McClure and he produced five innings of eight hit baseball, striking out three while surrendering five runs. He was solid on the hill for the Lions but dropped his second decision of the season.
The Lions put runners in scoring position in the later innings and produced a run in the eighth but it wasn't enough to come back against USF.
LMU will return home to Page Stadium for a three-game series against West Coast Conference foe San Diego with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9th.
