Women’s Soccer Scores Late Against #14 BYU

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's soccer (1-2-1, 1-2-0 WCC) hosted the 14th-ranked BYU Cougars (4-2-0, 2-0-0 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field. BYU took a 3-0 lead before Abby Stewart scored for the Lions to make it a 3-1 final.

The Cougars first scored on a penalty kick in the 26th minute, then added one more just before the half with a minute and a half remaining until intermission.

BYU added a third goal in the 59th minute to push ahead, 3-0.

The Lions jumped into the scoring column in the 78th minute. Abby Stewart scored her first goal of the season off the assists from Sierra Dunphy and Jalyn Lupo.

BYU outshot LMU 19-5, but the defense kept the Cougars mainly off target. Both goalkeepers finished with two saves in the game.

In addition to Stewart, both Madison Thomas and Sydney Schultz recorded shots on goal.

LMU will now play its first road game of the season, and travel the farthest of any scheduled game. The Lions will visit Gonzaga on Mar. 13 for a 1:00 p.m. game.
