LOS ANGELES – LMU women's soccer (1-2-1, 1-2-0 WCC) hosted the 14
th-ranked BYU Cougars (4-2-0, 2-0-0 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field. BYU took a 3-0 lead before
Abby Stewart scored for the Lions to make it a 3-1 final.
The Cougars first scored on a penalty kick in the 26
th minute, then added one more just before the half with a minute and a half remaining until intermission.
BYU added a third goal in the 59
th minute to push ahead, 3-0.
The Lions jumped into the scoring column in the 78
th minute.
Abby Stewart scored her first goal of the season off the assists from
Sierra Dunphy and
Jalyn Lupo.
BYU outshot LMU 19-5, but the defense kept the Cougars mainly off target. Both goalkeepers finished with two saves in the game.
In addition to Stewart, both
Madison Thomas and
Sydney Schultz recorded shots on goal.
LMU will now play its first road game of the season, and travel the farthest of any scheduled game. The Lions will visit Gonzaga on Mar. 13 for a 1:00 p.m. game.
