LA MIRADA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions women's swim team returned to the pool for their third meet of the season when they took on Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference foe Biola for a dual pentathlon.
In the competition, swimmers from both teams picked one of two pentathlon competitions: a medley pentathlon consisting of 50 yards in each of the four strokes and a 200 individual medley or a freestyle pentathlon where swimmers contest a 25, 50, 100, 200 and 500 yards freestyle. Points were awarded to the top six times in each event and an overall pentathlon winner was determined by totaling each swimmer's times from the five events (low time winning).
In the medley pentathlon, LMU freshman
Heidi Ly was the overall winner recording a combined time of 4:08.90 in the five events, two seconds faster than Anna Haakema from Biola while the Lions
Abigail Shaw placed third. Ly showed her versatility by winning the 50 backstroke event in 27.66, placing second in the 200 IM, fourth in both the 50 fly and 50 breast and fifth in the 50 free.
Shaw captured first in the 50 fly with a 26.88, third in the 50 free and fourth in the 50 back. Senior
Serena Myatt also had a strong showing placing second to Shaw in the 50 fly and second to Ly in the 50 back. Myatt also picked up fourth place points in the 50 free. Sophomore
Kelli Andrade also picked up points for the Lions placing third in the 50 breast.
Sophomore
Lily Gallagher had an all-around strong showing in the freestyle pentathlon placing fourth overall while scoring points in 200, 25, 500 and 100 yard races. Right behind Gallagher was freshman
