Lions Sweep SCU on Senior Day

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team swept Santa Clara 3-0 on Senior Day in Gersten Pavilion. The Lions opened up their match honoring Sierra Bartley, Jessie Prichard and Meredith Teague

The three seniors have been instrumental in the Lions' success, and helped the team to its second round NCAA appearance in 2018, when the team upset No. 1 BYU to earn the bid, and then beat Duke in the first round.

The Lions set the tone in the first set, as they opened up with a 6-0 run to take the lead. LMU continued its momentum, going on several runs, including an 8-1 run. The team started leading by double-digits at 17-7, and extended its lead to close out set one with a 25-11 win.

Up 1-0, Santa Clara put the first point on the board, but the Lions answered back and took the lead.  The beginning of set two was tight, as Santa Clara tied things up five times, but the Broncos were never able to take the lead. The last tied score was at 5-5, and then the Lions broke away. The Lions went on a 7-0 run to win set two. 25-14.

On top of Santa Clara 2-0, LMU opened up set three with a 5-1 run. Santa Clara was able to tie things up at 15-15, but the Lions took the lead back and held onto it for the rest of the set to win 25-18, and to win the match.

The Lions had 45 total kills. Rose Booth lead the Lions with 12, while Kari Geissberger and Audrey Klemp both had 10 each. Ella Boehle and Klemp both led in service aces with two each.

Isabella Bareford led the team in assists with 31 of the Lions' 39. Emmelyn Walters led the team in blocks, totaling six, with five block assists and one block solo. Mary Shroll led in digs with 13.
