No. 12 Lions Battle to a Draw Against Pilots

PORTLAND – The No. 12 Loyola Marymount University Lions (3-0-1, 2-0-1 WCC) battled back and forth all afternoon and at the conclusion of 110 minutes played against the Portland Pilots ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Lions, playing in their first overtime game of the season, went back and forth in a nail bitter against the Pilots but neither team could get the game winning goal and the contest ended in a draw.

LMU entered the match on a three-game winning streak by virtue of aggressive play on the offensive end and stellar performances from goalkeeper Jacob Jackson. After the horn sounded on Sunday afternoon Jackson posted his third clean sheet in the Lions first four games on the year.

LMU turned on the pressure early in the second half with a pair of shots on goal, the first coming from Bastien Oberli in the 49th minute and Gerardo Lopez in the 56th minute. The Lions didn't relent at trying to get the first score of the game as Ronaldo Brown sent a shot on net in the 66th minute and Lopez sent another ball on goal in the 68th minute.

In the 88th minute Leo Zulli sent a shot on goal and in the waning minutes of the second half LMU got shots from Duhaney Williams and Steven Anderson but none of them found their mark in the back of the net.

The Lions outshot Portland in the overtime sessions 6-5 and for the game had the shot advantage 18-12 with six coming on goal to none for the Pilots. LMU also had the advantage in corner kicks 10-2 but none were able to produce a score for the Lions.

LMU returns to Sullivan Field for a three-game homestand starting with a match against San Diego scheduled for Sunday, March 21st at 1:00 p.m.
