Booth Sets Career High in Lions' Win Over Portland

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team beat Portland 3-1 Tuesday night, sweeping the Pilots in their two-game series in Gersten Pavilion, led by Rose Booth who set her career high in kills with 23.

The Lions set the tone in set one, as Emmelyn Walters put the Lions on the board with a kill, and then a kill from Rose Booth gave the Lions a 2-0 lead. A 4-0 run gave the Lions a double-digit lead over the Pilots, and then a kill by Walters took LMU to set point. A service ace from Isabella Bareford gave the Lions a 25-13 set win. 
 
Up 1-0, Kari Geissberger took the Lions on a 3-0 run to open up set two, as she had three straight kills. Portland was able to tie things up three times, but LMU never gave up the lead. A service error from the Pilots gave the Lions their set point.
 
Up two sets to none, the Pilots held the Lions to a tight third set, as they tied things up five times and there were three lead changes. Tied at 19-19, the Pilots took the lead and maintained it, winning set three 25-23. 
 
There was only one tied score in set four at 1-1, and then the Lions took the lead for the remainder of the set, and took a 5-0 run to take a comfortable lead. A kill by Audrey Klemp gave the Lions their match point at 25-17. 
 
Booth dominated in kills, tallying up 23, with a .315 attack percentage, beating her previous career high of 20, which she set her freshman season against Nebraska.  Bareford led the team in assists with 43, while Mary Shroll led the team in digs with 18. Bareford and Shroll both had two service aces each. Walters had four block assists, of the teams four total blocks. 
 
The Lions will be on the road next week, as the team will head to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
