Kari Geissberger led the Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (3-4) in kills with 14 Tuesday night in the Lions 3-0 loss to against Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
The Lions opened up set one on a strong note, as LMU was on the board first after a service ace from
Isabella Bareford. The Lions remained neck and neck with the Cougars for the first part of the set, as there were three tied scores. The Cougars went on a 4-0 run, which gave them the lead that they hung on to for the rest of the set, coming out on top of the Lions 25-21.
Down 1-0, Geissberger opened up set two with a kill. With seven tied scores, the Lions continued to battle, tying things up at 16-16, until the Cougars took the lead for the rest of the set and won set two 25-20.
The Lions fought until the very end in set three, as there were 10 tied scores and three lead changes. The Cougars won set three 25-19, clinching the match.
Geissberger led the team in kills, while
Audrey Klemp had eight. Bareford led the team in assists with 35, while
Mary Shroll led in digs with 15. Bareford,
Rose Booth and
Annabella Pirrotta all had one service ace each.
The Lions ended with a .264 attack percentage, 40 total assists and 32 total digs.
LMU will be back on the court tomorrow at 6:00 PM to play the second match against the Cougars.
