LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team picked up its first sweep of the season, as the team beat Portland 3-0 in Gersten Pavilion, behind
Rose Booth and
Audrey Klemp's eight kills a piece.
LMU vs Portland: 25-20, 26-24, 25-13
Portland opened up the first set with a kill, but Klemp responded with a kill to tie things up. After tying the score up 10 times, the Lions broke away at 13-13, and went on a 7-1 run to take a comfortable lead. A kill by
Sierra Bartley gave the Lions a 25-20 lead, sealing the set for the Lions.
Up 1-0, the Lions held the Pilots to another tight set, tying things up 11 times. Tied at 24-24, an attack error gave the Lions their 25
th point, and then a kill by Klemp gave the Lions their set two win, 26-24.
Klemp set the tone in set three, giving the Lions their first two kills. The Lions only allowed the Pilots to tie things up at 1-1, then maintained a lead the rest of the set. An 8-1 run gave took the Lions to match point. A kill from
Kari Geissberger gave the Lions a 25-13 set win, handing them their first sweep of the season.
Klemp and Booth led the team in kills with eight each, while
Isabella Bareford led in assists with 26. Booth had three service aces, while
Emmelyn Walters led in blocks, with four total.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday to host Portland in their second match.
