Shaw Scores Five as Lions Close Regular Season in Added Home Game

LOS ANGELES – LMU men's water polo officially closed out the regular season on Sunday after adding a new final game to the schedule. #5 LMU played #6 Pepperdine for the third time this season, falling to the Waves, 14-8.

Joseph Shaw opened the game with a goal in the opening 24 seconds. Pepperdine equalized before Shaw added his second of the quarter. The Waves scored the next two, with one coming on a penalty goal. Luke Chandler tied the game at 3-3 with a final minute goal to close out the opening period.

Pepperdine jumped ahead 5-3 before Shaw completed the hat trick in his final home game of his career. The Waves built their lead up to 6-4 before intermission and took a two-goal lead into halftime.

Although Pepperdine scored three of the four goals in the third quarter, it was Joseph Shaw again that added one back for the Lions.

After falling behind 13-5 in the fourth quarter, Shaw closed his day with his fifth goal of the day. Jack Dunbar finished the game with a pair of goals in the final minute.

Robert Halligan made 17 saves as LMU's goalkeeper.

The Lions now focus solely on the conference tournament. The WWPA Championships will begin Friday at noon with the opening round game between LMU and host California Baptist.
