RIVERSIDE, Calif. – LMU men's water polo (4-7, 1-1) lost on Friday afternoon in the semifinal game of the Western Water Polo Association Championships. #6 LMU and #7 California Baptist split the first four meetings of the season, prior to the tournament. The Lancers pulled out a 10-6 win to advance to Saturday's final against top-seeded Air Force.
CBU opened the scoring, but
Jonny Rimlinger took advantage of playing a man-up and scored the equalizing powerplay goal at the 5:35 mark of the first quarter. After the Lancers retook their lead,
Tyler Harvey tied the score at 2-all with his goal at the 3:49 mark. CBU scored on their next possession, and took a 3-2 lead after one period of play.
The tournament hosts scored both goals in the second quarter and extended their advantage to 5-2 at halftime.
LMU fell behind 7-2 before
Daniel Roth converted a penalty goal with 2:16 to play in the third. The Lions entered the final quarter of the game down, 8-3.
Rimlinger scored less than a minute into the fourth quarter, but the Lancers scored the next two.
Aden Mina scored with 1:49 remaining and Rimlinger completing his hattrick in the final second of the game.
Robert Halligan made eight saves and added 1 steal.
