PORTLAND, ORE., --The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team dropped its second to last game against University of Portland on Thursday night, 73-63 in Portland, Ore. Two Lions scored in the double-digits, including,
Khari Clark and
Ciera Ellington.
The Lions opened up the first quarter with a 6-0 run. The teams tied things up three times, but the Lions left the quarter down 17-16.
Meghan Mandel opened up the second quarter with a layup, giving the Lions the lead. Tied at 21-21, the Lions went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for the rest of the half, closing out on top of Portland in double-digits, 38-28.
The Pilots opened the third quarter with a 17-0 run to take the lead, closing out the quarter ahead of the Lions 53-42. The Lions battled in the fourth quarter, but the Pilots kept their momentum and won the game 73-63.
Clark led the team in points with 16, while Ellington had 13. Clark also led the team in rebounds and in steals with nine and two.
Ariel Johnson and
Nicole Rodriguez led the team in assists with four each.
The Lions shot 44 percent from the field and 80 percent from the line, while the Pilots shot 42 percent and 58. LMU shot 25 percent from behind the arch. The Lions had 36 total rebound, six blocks, 12 steals and 18 assists.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday to take on No. 21 Gonzaga at 1:00 PM.
