SPOKANE, Wash. – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team beat Gonzaga 3-1 in its second game of the series on Tuesday afternoon in Spokane, Wash., behind 18 kills from
Kari Geissberger.
The teams opened set one to a tight set, as LMU took the first lead, but then the Bulldogs tied it up and then took a quick lead. There were nine tied scores and five lead changes, the Bulldogs won their only set of the match, 25-20.
Down 1-0, LMU responded in the second set. The Lions went on a 5-0 run, giving them a comfortable advantage. The Bulldogs were able to tie it back up, but the Lions never gave up the lead. There were nine tied scores and three lead changes. The Lions closed out set two up 25-23.
Tied at 1-1, LMU continued its momentum into the third set. There was only one lead change and six tied scores. Tied at 24-24, the Lions scored two points to take the set three win, 26-24.
Another close set, the Lions battled the Bulldogs and fought until the end, coming out with a 25-23 set win after 10 tied scores and six lead changes. The Lions set four win won them the match.
Geissberger led the team in kills with 18, while
Rose Booth had 17.
Isabella Bareford led the team in assists with 48, while
Mary Shroll led the team in digs with 24.
Emmelyn Walters had three block assists, contributing to the teams' six total blocks.
The Lions will be back home in Gersten Pavilion on Sunday and Monday to host Santa Clara University.
