Lions Sweep The Joust, Take Top Three Individual Finishes as Well

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – LMU men's golf took home all three trophies in this year's The Joust at Goose Creek by claiming the Team Championship, the Individual Championship, and the All-Five Team Championship on Tuesday.

In the team standings, LMU put together a 10-under final round, the only team to shoot under par on the day. The Lions finished the tournament at 300-282-270—852, and finished with a 25-stroke cushion over the second place Washington State Cougars (301-292-284—877) for the largest margin of victory in school history.

LMU recorded 50 birdies over the 54 holes, a dozen more than the next closest teams. The team win is LMU's first since the 2015-16 season when the Lions won the Bill Cullum Invitational in October of 2015, and the first under Head Coach Jason D'Amore.

For the third time in program history, an LMU golfer has won the individual title in back-to-back tournaments. Gavin Cohen took home the individual medal and finished as the only player in the field to finished under par. Cohen closed the tournament with back-to-back rounds under par with a 71-69-69—209.

The Lions took the next two positions as well, with Riley Lewis (76-73-65—214) and Cameron Meeks (75-70—69—214) tying for second overall at 214. Lewis's third round 65 was the low of the tournament among the 85 individuals. The freshman was one of four Lions to continuously lower in each round from first to second to third. Meeks was one of four Lions with a final round under par on Tuesday. The second-place finish is the best in each of their careers.

Caden McMackin shot a 78-70-75—223 to close out the team scoring for the Lions. Kyle Kinnane's 80-77-67—224 was included in the All-Five team Championship scoring. McMackin benefited from nine birdies while Kinnane used eight birdies and one eagle.

LMU is the first team to take home all three trophies in the short run of the The Joust, which is in its second year of play.

The Lions will look to continue the run of low scores next Monday and Tuesday at the Sacramento State Invitational in Elk Grove.
