Lions Fall To Gonzaga, Looking Towards Second Game

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Loyola Marymount University women's volleyball team pushed the Gonzaga Bulldogs to the last set in Spokane, Wash., behind Rose Booth's 22 kills, but the team fell 3-2.

The Lions started off strong in the first set, putting the first two points on the board, then going on a 5-1 run. The Lions held onto the lead until the Bulldogs tied things up at 12-12, and continued their 5-0 run. There was only one lead change an five tied scores. The Bulldogs won the first set 25-22. 
 
Gonzaga opened up set one to a 3-0 run, but the Lions tied things up at 11-11 and took the lead. The Lions didn't allow the Bulldogs to take the lead back, but the teams tied things up three times and LMU came out with the set two win, 25-23.
 
Tied at 1-1, the Lions put the first point on the board in the third set, but then the Bulldogs took the lead. There was only one lead change, and four tied scores. Gonzaga took set three 25-19. 
 
Down 2-1, the Lions answered back in the fourth set. After six tied scores and three lead changes, the Lions went on a 6-0 run. To win set four 25-23. 
 
Tied at 2-2, the Lions held the Bulldogs to a neck and neck set, tying the score up 10 times and having four lead changes. Tied at 15-15, Gonzaga scored two points to take the match. 
 
Booth led the team in kills with 22, while Kari Geissberger had 20. Isabella Bareford led in assists and service aces with 55 and five, while Mary Shroll led in digs with 34. Emmelyn Walters had four block assists and one block solo.
 
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday to play Gonzaga at noon in their second meeting of the season.
