LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions women's swim team posted victories over Pepperdine 147-105 and Westmont 197-57 on Saturday morning in the lone home triangular meet of the season.
The Lions were led by a pair of individual wins by
Taylor Pajunen and
Abigail Shaw, plus victories by
Anna Doherty,
Heidi Ly, and
Kelli Andrade.
The morning was led off by head coach
Bonnie Adair taking time to recognized her senior class. Pajunen, along with
Serena Myatt,
Audrey Hixon,
Alexis De Bever, and
Anna Gasiorowski all stepped onto the block at the Burns Aquatics Center for the final time.
LMU posted their first of several victories on the day with the 400 medley relay where the team of Ly, Andrade, Shaw, and Myatt posted the fastest time, touching the pad over three seconds faster than the next team.
Doherty took home the win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.84 while Ly won the 100 backstroke and Andrade bested the competition in the 100 breaststroke.
The day belonged to the senior class but Pajunen and Shaw were the standouts. At one point during the meet the pair alternated wins while the Lions posted six straight victories. Pajunen's victories in the 200 and 100 butterfly solidified the Lions grip on the meet. Shaw's victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle gave LMU a total of eight wins in the 14 event meet.
The Lions will return to the pool in March when they travel to La Mirada and compete against Biola. The meet is slated for March 6.
