LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University concluded its final game in Gersten Pavilion of the 2020-21 season Saturday night with a 32-point third quarter run and a double-double from
Ariel Johnson. A second half effort from the Lions made for a neck and neck ending, but the Pacific Tigers won the game 73-69.
The Lions used Saturday's game to Celebrate Black History Month, where the team played the Black National Anthem and wore their social justice jerseys.
Pacific opened the first quarter with an 11-0 run, the Lions responded, but the Tigers closed out the first on top, 19-12. The Tigers took their momentum into the second quarter, closing out the half 48-18.
The Lions answered back in the third quarter, going on a 12-2 run to open the quarter, and scoring a total of 32 points, compared to the Tigers' 13. The Lions were able to closed out the third down just two possessions, 55-50.
LMU continued its momentum in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer from
Cassandra Gordon tied the game up at 64-64. The Lions battled, but couldn't hold on, falling 73-69.
Johnson led the team in points with 23, while
Nicole Rodriguez had 11.
Meghan Mandel led the team in blocks and in steals, with two and four, respectively. Rodriguez led the team in assists. With three.
The Lions had 36 total rebounds, compared to Pacific's 32. LMU had 11 total assists, four blocks and nine steals.
The Lions will be on the road for their last two regular season games, as the team will head to Portland and Gonzaga.
