LOS ANGELES – Three Lions scored in the double-digits Thursday night against Saint Mary's College, including 21 points from
Ariel Johnson, but the Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team fell 69-58 in Gersten Pavilion.
The Lions used Thursday night's game as their Pride in Pink game, where they honored those who have been affected by breast cancer or pancreatic cancer by wearing pink uniforms, and having pink and purple ribbons.
The Lions opened the game off to a strong start, taking a lead early in the first quarter, and closing it out up 15-11. The Lions continued their momentum in the second quarter, leaving the half up 36-32.
The Gaels gained momentum in the third quarter, tying things up and then taking a lead, closing out the third 48-44. The Gaels extended their lead to double-digits, and closed out the game with a 69-58 win over the Lions.
Johnson led the team in points with 21, while
Ciera Ellington had 13 and
Khari Clark had 12. Johnson also led in rebounds with eight, while
Nicole Rodriguez led in assists with four and in steals with four.
Khari Clark led the team in blocks with three.
The Lions shot 40 percent from the field, 25 percent from behind the arch and 83 percent from the line. LMU collected 26 total rebounds, 15 steals and five blocks.
The Lions will be back on the court on Saturday for their Black History Month game, as the team hosts Pacific. Tip-off is at 5:00 PM.
