LOS ANGELES – Following
Eli Scott's 37-point performance on Tuesday night, the LMU men's basketball team will have to quickly shift focus to prepare for San Francisco on Thursday. The Lions (10-6, 5-3 WCC) will play the Dons (10-10, 4-6 WCC) for the second time this season on Thursday at 6:00 PM from War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
LMU opened conference play against USF back in January, and earned a 68-60 win in Los Angeles. The Lions jumped out to a quick start in that game and led 20-6 early on. San Francisco tied the game in the second half, but LMU pulled away for their first conference win under
Stan Johnson.
Scott had a double-double performance in the first meeting, with 20 points and 10 rebounds. In conference play, Scott leads all WCC players in both scoring and rebounding at 21.9 and 8.1, respectively.
The 37 points scored by Scott at Santa Clara on Tuesday tied Pepperdine's Kessler Edwards for the most scored by a WCC player this season, but nobody in the league has scored more field goals than Scott's 15 on Tuesday. Scott also grabbed six rebounds in the win to surpass 700 in his career. He is five boards away from taking sole possession of 10
th in the program's all-time records. Scott also jumped into the top 10 in assists earlier this season.
First year head coach
Stan Johnson, now with 10 wins under his belt, is one of just five coaches in program history to win double-digit games in his first 16 games. Johnson joins Paul Westhead to start their LMU career at 10-6.
The game will air on NBC Bay Area, Fox Sports West, and ROOT Sports NW. As always, the game will be available to the radio audience on KXLU 88.9 FM.
